The Emporia Senior baseball team split a doubleheader with Newton Wednesday night.
The 19s won the first game 11-8 scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th to break an 8-8 tie.
Hunter Groh was 2 for 3 and scored 3 runs.
Cade Kohlmeier was also 2 for 3 and scored 3 runs and drove in a run with a double.
Newton won the 2nd game 2-1. Newton scored the games 1st run in the 4th inning. Emporia tied the game in the bottom of the 6th. Newton scored an unearned run in the 7th to retake the lead.
Emporia Coach Anthony Markowitz saw positives in both games.
John Miller was the starting pitcher for Emporia. He goes the distance giving up 1 earned run on 4 hits with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks.
The 19s are now 16-8 for the season they are scheduled to host Iola in a doubleheader Friday night.
