As advance voting opportunities rev up with the primary now barely two weeks away, Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab says voters should not be turned away from any voting activities if they decide not to wear masks.
Schwab has sent a memo to county election officials saying that no qualified voter will be turned away from a polling location for not wearing a mask — or for wearing a mask, for that matter. Schwab cited Article 5, Section 1 of the Kansas Constitution that outlines the three criteria to be qualified to vote, namely age, citizenship and residence.
Schwab encourages all residents to be safe and follow the recommended safety protocols of county health professionals when they vote. All polling locations across Kansas have been given the opportunity to buy personal protective equipment through federal funding to minimize the spread of coronavirus.
Lyon County has an offsite voter event at Flinthills Mall on Saturday followed by the traditional start of the advance vote process at the County Courthouse on Monday.
