The Kansas Department of Transportation has approved two construction projects for area counties.
In Morris County, Bettis Asphalt & Construction won the contract for bridge work on US Highway 56 over Big John Creek just east of Council Grove. The bid amount was around $165,000.
KDOT has also approved a culvert project on Interstate 35 over the Willow Creek drainage area near the Kansas Highway 31 junction south of Melvern. Pfefferkorn and Drury Construction of Olathe won the contract with a bid of nearly $200,000.
Construction timetables have not been announced.
The announcements come as Governor Laura Kelly will be near Emporia on Monday to break ground on a widening project for US Highway 50 just west of Emporia. The ceremony begins at 10 am, highlighting a widening from two to four lanes of traffic on US-50 between Roads E-5 and F.
