A Topeka woman was taken to Newman Regional Health following an accident in Chase County Sunday.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol crash log, a 2014 KIA Optima driven by 42-year-old Kelly Michelle Schwindt of Topeka was southbound on the Kansas Turnpike at milepost 106 around 1 pm Sunday afternoon when Schwindt fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle then struck a barrier wall and lost its front tire.
The vehicle continued to travel forward and struck the wall once more before coming to a rest. Schwindt was taken to Newman Regional Health with suspected minor injuries.
She was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident.
