Flint Hills Care and Rehabilitation Center is working with Lyon County Public Health to determine how coronavirus got into the skilled nursing facility at 1620 Wheeler.
In an email exchange with KVOE News, Administrator Susan Pennington says the positive test results on 12 residents and six staffers came back Saturday. At this point in time, it’s unclear whether the tests were scheduled.
Pennington says the health and safety of residents and employees is the facility’s top priority. She says staff are doing all they can towards that end and she encourages everybody to wear masks, wash hands and practice social distancing.
11:45 am Monday: Flint Hills Care Center reports 18 COVID-19 cases
Flint Hills Care and Rehab Center is reporting nearly 20 residents and employees now diagnosed with coronavirus.
Administrator Susan Pennington says 12 residents and six employees were recently diagnosed. All are asymptomatic. However, the positive residents were transferred to what Pennington says is a dedicated COVID-19 unit in Merriam to help stop the spread.
Flint Hills Care and Rehab is a 45-bed skilled nursing facility. Pennington says staffers are following all guidelines as outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Resident rooms have been cleaned and sanitized. Staff are screened twice a shift and residents are screened three times daily. All staff and residents will be tested weekly for at least the next three weeks.
In Friday’s update, Lyon County Public Health did not announce any clusters in skilled nursing facilities. It is not clear if Public Health will make that announcement in Monday’s update.
