Special Olympics and KVOE are encouraging you to take part in a special fundraiser through the end of July.
The Virtual Ron’s Ride begins Monday and continues through July 31. It’s a spin off the traditional Ron’s Ride that normally takes place as part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run — and it reflects adjustments needed because of coronavirus. On KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Monday, Special Olympics Kansas spokesman Mitch Guthrie said he’s grateful an event like this is now on the community calendar.
Runners and walkers are encouraged to go 5 kilometers during the next 10 days, while cyclists are encouraged to longer routes of their choosing. Lyon County Undersheriff John Koelsch explains how to get involved, including going online to www.ksso.org/events or by going to Emporia Police Headquarters or the Lyon County Law Enforcement Center for paper registration forms.
Amanda Gutierrez of the Emporia Recreation Commission says this will be a Super Series event.
Thomas has said he, his wife LaDonna, and his dog Buster will all walk 10 kilometers each between now and the end of the month. As you’re taking part, be sure to take video of your walk, run or ride and tag KVOE on Facebook and Twitter.
For more information, call Thomas at 342-1400 or Koelsch at 794-1741.
