(royals) The Kansas City Royals wrapped up summer camp with an exhibition loss to the St. Louis Cardinals 6-3 Wednesday afternoon.
Salvador Perez and Bubba Starling hit solo home runs for the Royals.
The Royals used 10 different pitchers giving up 6 runs on 5 hits, 9 walks and 4 strike outs and 1 home run.
The Royals open the season Friday at Cleveland.
With their rotation dangerously thin after the temporary losses of Brad Keller and Jakob Junis, Kansas City is going with youth as one replacement, announcing that right-hander Brady Singer will make his Major League debut on Saturday in Cleveland.
Singer, 23, is the Royals’ No. 2 prospect per MLB Pipeline and was the team’s first-round Draft pick out of Florida in 2018.
The Royals also announced that infielder/outfielder Hunter Dozier has tested positive for COVID-19 and is being placed on the injured list. The 28-year-old was Kansas City’s first pick in the 2013 Draft (No. 8 overall) and is coming off of his best big league season, hitting 26 home runs with 84 RBIs while tying for the league lead in triples with 10.
