Most of the KVOE listening area remains in moderate drought.
The latest update from the US Drought Monitor shows nearly all of Lyon County in moderate drought, along with all of Greenwood County, almost all of Coffey County and most of Chase County. Far southwest Osage County is also included.
The moderate drought area actually expanded across most of Chase County and the west half of Greenwood County despite heavy rainfall earlier this week, but the 3-9 inches commonplace across the area Monday night into Tuesday wasn’t recorded even though it happened before the 8 am Tuesday data cutoff deadline. This week’s rain may have an impact on next Thursday’s report, depending on whether we get rainfall through Tuesday morning.
