An Idaho man suffered apparently serious injuries after a crash south of Emporia on Thursday.
Lyon County Deputy Tera Gifford says the wreck happened in the 1100 block of Kansas Highway 99 shortly after 5 pm. Steve Damron, age and hometown not listed, was driving a car southbound when he went across traffic and into a ditch before hitting a tree.
Damron was taken to Newman Regional Health for treatment. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the wreck.

Further details are pending, however, one individual was taken to Newman Regional Health after a single-vehicle accident south of Emporia Thursday evening.
Emporia/Lyon County EMS and Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the 1100 block of South Kansas Highway 99 for an injury accident shortly after 5 pm. According to Sheriff’s Deputies on scene, a southbound Hyundai Sonata was traveling on the highway and for currently unknown reasons left the roadway.
The vehicle then went down an embankment and struck a tree. The driver of the vehicle was taken by ambulance to Newman with currently undisclosed injuries for observation and possible treatment.
No other occupants were inside the vehicle at the time of the accident. Further details are pending from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.
