Numerous reports of unsolicited packages containing unknown seeds arriving on doorsteps have caught the attention of the Kansas Department of Agriculture.
According to the KDA reports of packages such as these from Kansans match similar reports being made in other US states over the past several days.
Some of the packages have been labeled as jewelry, however, they do not contain any. Instead, the packages contain seeds that the KDA says may have originated in China due to writing discovered on some of the packages, however, the exact type of seeds inside the packages is unclear at this time.
KDA asks that anyone who may receive a package such as this not open them or plant the seeds. Unsolicited seeds could be invasive species, could introduce diseases to local plants or could be harmful to livestock.
If you have recently received an unsolicited package matching this description you’re asked to contact KDA’s plant protection and weed control program at 785-564-6698, via email at KDA.PPWC@ks.gov, or at the complaint reporting portion of the KDA website: report a seed complaint.
