Based on a KVOE News poll, listeners did not agree with the recent decision by the Kansas State Board of Education vote essentially letting school districts decide when they could start school.
Nearly 70 percent of voters, or 782 votes, in the three-day poll said they disagreed. Thirty percent, or 339 votes, said they agreed with the decision. Seventeen votes were undecided. Over 1,100 votes were recorded in the non-scientific poll from Wednesday afternoon to Friday afternoon.
On July 15, Governor Laura Kelly announced plans to sign Executive Order 20-58, forcing all schools to delay opening until at least Sept. 9. This past Wednesday, the State Board of Education voted 5-5 on approval. The tie vote meant the executive order was not affirmed and as such could not take effect.
Governor Kelly’s next news briefing is at 4 pm Monday. We’ll carry that for you on KVOE and KVOE.com.
