Area school districts continue planning for the start of the 2020-21 academic year in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
USD 252 Southern Lyon County Superintendent Mike Argabright joined KVOE’s Newsmaker 2 segment Monday morning to update the district’s progress on reopening plans for the upcoming school year. Argabright says the district is currently weighing two options for starting the school year, both of which would be a bit later than originally anticipated.
The district is currently considering pushing the start date back to Aug. 20, one day later than originally planned, or to Aug. 25. Argabright says the district’s main focus at this time is providing staff with enough time to prepare for when students return.
As for education delivery, Argabright says the district will be offering a “blended” education model this year.
The district will be following Governor Laura Kelly’s executive order on mandatory mask usage inside of school buildings. Temperature checks will be required prior to entering school buildings as well.
KVOE will continue checking in with area school districts throughout the week. Tuesday USD 251 North Lyon County Superintendent Bob Blair will join the Newsmaker 2 slot at 8:20 am.
USD 417 Superintendent Aaron Dody has the 8:20 am slot Wednesday and USD 243 Superintendent Cory Reece will be on the air at 8:20 am Thursday.
