USD 386 Madison Virgil has an official start date for the 2020-21 school year following a board of education meeting Monday evening.
Board members voted to delay the reopening of schools to Aug. 20, a week later than the original start date of Aug. 13. The Aug. 20 start date was proposed by the district’s reopening committee comprised of district board members, teachers and community members.
The committee decided on the date after conferring with district staff. Superintendent Stu Moeckel says having district staff input was crucial to this process.
Moeckel says once school begins the district will have a hybrid learning model this school year. He says the reopening committee has spent the majority of its time developing a road map of what that hybrid model will look like.
Moeckel says once the road map is complete, implementation of that model from day-to-day will be up to building staff.
An exact date for when the committee will present its report to the board is currently pending. USD 386 now joins USD 417 Morris County as having delayed the start of the upcoming year after USD 417 voted to delay the start of school until Sept. 1 last week.
