COVID-19 continues to impact hospitalization, and financial, numbers at Newman Regional Health.
During Wednesday’s monthly board meeting, it was announced that there have been 8 COVID-19 hospitalizations in the last week, and the hospital suffered a 138.7% operating loss for the month of June. Newman CEO Bob Wright says they reopened their COVID unit earlier this week.
Wright says the recent spike in cases at elder care facilities is driving the rise in hospitalizations. He says they are also dealing with a dwindling supply of procedure masks, but have a good supply of N-94 masks and cloth covers to get them by.
Wright says the operating loss is tied in to COVID — partly due to fluctuations in revenues and incoming grants, but also do to having not fully recovered their pre-COVID patient volume.
The board’s next meeting is scheduled for August 26th.
