USD 252 Southern Lyon County is the latest area school district to approve an official start date for the upcoming academic year.
During a special Board of Education meeting Tuesday evening, board members unanimously approved a delayed start of Aug. 25 for the 2020-21 school year. USD 252 Superintendent Mike Argabright is confident the new start date will provide ample time for staff to prepare for the return of students this fall.
The delayed start is roughly a week later than the district’s original start date of Aug. 19 and roughly two weeks less than Governor Laura Kelly’s proposed start date after the Labor Day Holiday Weekend.
Argabright says the district is ready to get kids back to school.
In terms of education delivery, the district will offer a “blended” education model this year. The blended model will provide students with a choice of attending class either in person or remotely.
The district will be following Governor Laura Kelly’s executive order on mandatory mask usage inside of school buildings. Temperature checks will be required prior to entering school buildings as well.
