The 2020 primary election is this Tuesday and Lyon County Clerk Tammy Vopat had some last-minute reminders for local voters this week.
During KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Friday, Vopat reminded all individuals that in-person advanced voting continues at the Lyon County Courthouse until noon Monday. Vopat says so far in-person voting has been slow this year with only 300 in-person ballots being cast as of Friday.
Vopat attributes this mostly to a large uptick in mail-in ballots. Vopat says the county election office has sent out over 3,000 mail ballots this year.
Vopat also noted that some adjustments have been made to voting precincts this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Additionally, Precinct 24 voters will cast their ballots at the Masonic Lodge in Americus and voters in Precinct 21 will cast their ballots at the North Lyon County Community Building.
Several precautions will be taken at the courthouse and polling places during the election due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes the use of personal protective equipment, such as masks and gloves, social distancing and continuous sanitation efforts throughout the election process.
KVOE will have full election coverage, including results and candidate reactions, throughout election night on 14KVOE, 96.9 FM and KVOE.com.
