The Salvation Army of Emporia is adjusting well to the “new normal” as of late.
Salvation Army Captain Deb Thompson recently joined KVOE’s Talk of Emporia to update current operations. She says mask usage is now required inside all Salvation Army facilities including the food pantry at 327 Constitution and the Thrift Store located at 520 Constitution. Thompson adds they are now asking that residents call ahead before visiting any of the facilities so staff can be prepared for their arrival.
Additionally, all church services have moved to an online format, like many other churches in the area. While it doesn’t allow for in-person fellowship, Thompson says she believes attendance has actually increased since services went virtual.
As for immediate needs Thompson says the food pantry is currently running low on baked goods, starches, breakfast items, fruits and vegetables. Clothing donations are also still being accepted 10 am to 5 pm weekdays, however, all clothing must be quarantined for three days before it is placed on shelves.
If you would like to donate to the food pantry, contact the Salvation Army by calling 620-342-3093.
