An outbreak of COVID-19 cases has been discovered inside the Chase County jail affecting both inmates and staff alike.
The Chase County Health Department confirmed 29 COVID cases Monday via its Facebook page. According to the report, 27 cases have been identified in jail inmates with two identified in jail staffers.
The detainees have been identified as all-male between the ages of 21 and 67. The two staff members are also males over the age of 23.
The health department has not announced if the individuals are all Chase County residents. The jail has begun to implement a number of mitigation strategies in response to the outbreak.
The list of efforts includes cohorts of inmates based on infection status, no transfers being permitted either to or from the facility, mandatory mask usage for all staff and encouraged usage for inmates, increased testing and routine examinations for signs of symptoms.
