This will likely be a primary election cycle unlike any other we have seen.
Election Day is Tuesday, but with a massive amount of mail ballots to process, the unofficial results won’t be finalized until the end of the week. Lyon County Clerk Tammy Vopat explained on KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Friday:
Updates should be announced by early afternoon starting Wednesday.
Lyon County sent over 3,700 mail ballots out to voters, and better than half have been returned. Mail ballots need to be postmarked by Tuesday and returned to the County Courthouse by Friday in order to count.
The official vote canvass is at 8 am Aug. 10, and there is a heightened emphasis on those results because of the coronavirus pandemic and its impact on both the traditional in-person vote and the crush of mail ballots — better than 10 percent of the county’s total population of around 34,000 — that developed.
Don’t forget the polls are open from 7 am to 7 pm Tuesday. KVOE News will have complete election coverage, including results and candidate reactions, beginning shortly after the polls close Tuesday night.
