Sacred Heart Elementary is making adjustments to its calendar and operations with the coronavirus pandemic ongoing.
Principal Darby O’Neill, a guest on KVOE’s Morning Show on Thursday, says the Catholic school is well-positioned in several ways to handle the pandemic. Part of that has to do with the campus layout, which O’Neill says helps with social distancing.
O’Neill says students will wear masks and there will be temperature checks every day. There will be other adjustments as well.
O’Neill says the school has a good supply on personal protective equipment, in part due to CARES Act funding, and he says the parish community has really stepped up financially to provide students with what they need.
O’Neill says Sacred Heart handled the end of the spring semester “as well as could be expected,” and it has been preparing all summer to have kids in class if possible. That’s still the goal, and Sacred Heart is taking a different approach with its education models than nearby public schools.
The school year is set to begin Sept. 2.
