Three charges have been amended in an Emporia teen sex abuse case involving a former teacher.
Prosecutors adjusted the severity level of two attempted sexual exploitation charges from 3 to 5, meaning lighter potential sentences in the case against Tyler Bosiljevac, a former Emporia High teacher who was fired in February after allegations of sexual misconduct against students came to light and then was formally charged in May. This means these two counts go to the alternate settings in the complaint filed by the County Attorney’s Office.
One of the three indecent liberties counts was adjusted from a felony to a misdemeanor, based on the age of the alleged victim.
Bosiljevac, 39, is facing eight counts against six alleged victims ranging in age from 14 to 17, including indecent liberties, attempted sexual exploitation, attempted unlawful sexual relations and sexual battery. The alleged timetable is from July 2016 to February 2020.
Bosiljevac waived his preliminary hearing Thursday. He now has his arraignment and a pretrial hearing at 2 pm Aug. 28. That pretrial is important in the overall court process because it is typically the one where potential trial dates are set.
