Nobody was hurt when a piece of farm equipment caught fire about 10 miles northeast of Emporia on Saturday.
Lyon County District 4, or Emporia Fire’s rural unit, joined forces with District 2, or Allen-Admire, and District 7 or Reading at Roads 270 and P shortly before 3:30 pm. District 4 Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage says a swather malfunction caught both the unit and some nearby hay on fire.
All told, about 20 yards of hay was destroyed. Steinlage says the swather can be repaired.
