USD 253, the Lyon County Health Department and the Emporia Recreation Commission have put RecXtra on hold.
According to a news release from the Emporia Recreation Commission, the decision was made after “diligently” working through the implications of holding the after school program amid the COVID-19 pandemic. RecXtra program supervisor Tiffany Miller says a major factor in the decision was staffing for the program.
Miller says it is an unfortunate decision, however, it is the best decision given the pandemic’s impact in the local community. The press release stated, “the safety and health of the children of our community is of paramount importance to us all.”
Current plans are to reevaluate the decision as the pandemic situation improves. For questions or more information contact the Emporia Recreation Commission by calling (620) 340-6300 or visit Emporiarec.org.
