Both Emporia State University and Flint Hills Technical College are starting classes Monday, and both will have extra money to help with coronavirus response efforts.
ESU is receiving over $1.5 million as part of the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund. It is also receiving around $3.25 million in CARES Act funding. Flint Hills Technical College is also tapping CARES Act funding to the amount of almost $270,000.
Earlier this year, Kansas received over $26 million from the US Department of Education for the GEER Fund. Universities will be reimbursed for approved expenses through September 2021.
The State Finance Council also approved a nearly $65 million allocation from the Coronavirus Relief Fund as part of CARES Act funding. Universities can use this money for COVID-related equipment and supplies, make building improvements and develop testing protocols.
