If you are looking to become a volunteer for CASA of the Flint Hills you’re in luck as applications are now available for the next upcoming training session.
CASA — Court Appointed Special Advocates — volunteers serve children in Lyon and Chase counties that have found themselves placed into the court system. According to CASA Director Dena Russell Marino, a recent guest of KVOE’s Talk of Emporia, the majority of the children they serve are currently in the foster care system.
CASA’s next training session will be taking place in October and will be a five-week virtual course due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Russell says this will include 10 online sessions total, five group sessions and five individual sessions.
Russell says the average class size for in-person training is 15 people, however, she says given the online format they will try to accommodate as many individuals as possible. If you are interested in becoming a CASA volunteer call 343-2744 or visit SOSkansas.com/CASA.
