Three people were taken to Newman Regional Health after a wreck involving two SUVs, one pulling a trailer, in Chase County on Sunday.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says the SUVs, one driven by 37-year-old Brandi McLaughlin of Bates City, Missouri, and the other driven by 51-year-old Donnell Williams of Olathe, were both in the southbound outside lane when the crash happened at mile marker 108 — almost 20 miles southwest of Emporia — just before 7:15 am. Troopers say the McLaughlin SUV was going faster than Williams’ SUV, but they also McLaughlin failed to yield and hit a trailer towed by Williams.
McLaughlin and two passengers, 17-year-old Donald Buckner of Dunlap, Tennessee, and 18-year-old Isaiah Gordon of Kansas City, Missouri, were all taken to Newman Regional Health with suspected minor injuries. Williams and a passenger, 52-year-old Victor Parker of Newton Grove, North Carolina, both suffered possible injuries but were not transported.
Traffic was constricted to one lane around the crash site for about an hour and 45 minutes.
