There will be no indoor soccer or youth volleyball as part of the Emporia Recreation Commission’s contingent of fall programming this year.
ERC Marketing director Shalla Bennett announced via a news release Monday afternoon that both programs were canceled due to facility restrictions and social distancing guidelines brought about by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
ERC Sports Supervisor Rick Cunningham:
On a positive note, the rec center will still have plenty to offer the local community this fall. All outdoor fall sports will still be taking place including football according to Cunningham.
Additionally, fall swim lessons and the annual Emporia Super Series are still on the calendar with some COVID related adjustments.
The rec center is incorporating social distancing into swimming lessons for preschool and level one through three classes. The Super Series meanwhile will be taking place virtually with race routes being posted on the rec center’s website the Monday of race week.
Participants will then have one week to complete the route after which they will take a screenshot of their fitness app and post the image to either Facebook or Twitter with the hashtag #ERCSuperseries.
