The annual United Way of the Flinthills Campaign Kickoff is set to take place Thursday with a new format.
United Way Executive Director Mickey Edwards says this year’s campaign kickoff will be a drive-thru food drive with all donations benefiting United Way community partners. The benefiting organizations include Help House of Osage County, Morris County Care & Share, and The Salvation Army.
Edwards tells KVOE News she recently visited Care and Share and says her visit was a great eye-opener to just how severe the need for food assistance is in the local area.
Suggested donation items for Thursday’s kickoff include:
Shelf milk
Condiments
Ramen Noodles
Pancake/waffle syrup
Desserts
Canned meals
Boxed Dinners
Beverages
Canned meats other than tuna
This year’s campaign co-chairs are BJ and Christy Bayer.
The food drive kickoff will take place from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on the northwest corner of the Lyon County Fairgrounds at 12th Avenue and Industrial Road. Face coverings will be required for all United Way staff and volunteers.
Additional prevention measures will also be in place including social distancing and use of hand sanitizer. For more information contact the United Way of the Flint Hills by calling 620-342-7564 or visit Unitedwayoftheflinthills.org.
