Emporia State University and Flint Hills Technical College are both cluster-free when it comes to coronavirus. However, Emporia State has one confirmed case and both institutions are monitoring developments with a handful of other people.
ESU Director of Media Relations Gwen Larson tells KVOE News one student was infected as of Friday. That person is in isolation. Five other students are in quarantine.
Larson says students have some options for isolation and quarantine situations if needed.
Faculty and staff, meanwhile, can isolate or quarantine in their own homes if possible, also working or teaching from home as their health permits.
At Flint Hills Technical College, President Dean Hollenbeck says two students were quarantined before classes started Monday. They have not been confirmed with coronavirus, but they won’t be allowed on campus until cleared by a doctor. No students or staff have tested positive at this time.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment reported five clusters in higher education Wednesday, the first time it had used that designation since classes began earlier this month. Nearly 60 people have been infected at colleges and universities across the state.
