Retired Municipal Court Judge Robert Morton has died at the age of 86.
Morton passed away Thursday. Lyon County Administrative Judge Merlin Wheeler’s dealings with Morton date back to the late 1970s, when Wheeler started as Emporia city attorney. He called Morton a local icon, a willing mentor and a champion of victim rights.
Morton served on the bench locally in the 1970s and 1980s. An obituary provided by Charter Funerals says Morton had been battling coronavirus, but the official cause of death has not been announced.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
