Longtime Emporia pastor Kenneth Armstrong has passed away.
Armstrong, 79, died Aug. 13 in Moore, Oklahoma. Visitation and a private burial have already taken place in Oklahoma. A memorial service will be held at Emporia’s West Side Baptist Church at a later date.
Armstrong served as pastor at West Side Baptist from 1993-2018. His ministry career started in the early 1960s in the Texas panhandle before moving to Brockton, Massachusetts, to begin the Temple Baptist Church in 1971. He stayed there until moving to Emporia.
Armstrong was born in Paris, Texas, in 1941. He married Genice Eben in 1962. Armstrong is survived by his wife, three children, 14 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
