The Salvation Army of Emporia’s back to school assistance period begins Monday.
The back to school assistance program helps provide supplies and materials for families in need throughout Lyon County. Salvation Army Captain Deb Thompson says this year’s process will be slightly different than year’s past due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
She says the Salvation Army is trying to provide services with as little in-person contact as possible.
According to Thompson last year the Salvation Army assisted over 70 families with school supply needs. She expects that number to sharply increase due to hardships brought about by the pandemic over the past five months.
To apply for the program families need to call the Salvation Army at 620-342-3093 between 10 am and 3 pm. The assistance period concludes Wednesday.
