Governor Laura Kelly said “it was a bad week” in Kansas, culminating with the Department of Health and Environment reporting 1,545 new cases and seven new deaths — pushing the total number of cases to 38,401 and the death toll to 426.
During her weekly news conference Monday, the governor referenced increasing caseloads at Kansas and Kansas State. She also urged people to take all the necessary health precautions — notably the use of masks and social distance bubbles — as public and parochial schools get started on their fall semesters.
In addition, the governor suggested a flip in the high school and college sports schedule, with football going to spring and sports like cross country, tennis and golf moving to the fall. This comes as the Kansas State High School Activities Association Executive Board has approved an alternate season for fall sports in the spring if schools can’t complete a traditional season.
