USD 253 Emporia Public Schools will be offering a hybrid public comment model of sorts for its upcoming Board of Education meeting Wednesday.
Board members will entertain both electronic and in-person comments Wednesday evening. Anyone wishing to submit a written comment must do so by 8 am Wednesday morning.
For those wishing to offer in-person comments, a google form is available via the district’s website and must be completed and submitted by 8 am Wednesday. Those who sign up for in-person attendance will have the option to either speak virtually through Google Hangout or to come to the Mary Herbert Education Center in person.
USD 253 Community Relations Director Lyndel Landgren says the board wants to be respectful of each patron’s comfort level with the current health situation.
For those planning to enter the Mary Herbert Education Center there will be several health protocols in place before and after entering the facility.
Additional parameters may be implemented depending on the number of individuals requesting to participate in public comment. Landgren says the board’s goal is to accommodate as much comment as possible in a “fair and equitable manner.”
Written comments submitted to the board will not be read during the meeting. The public comment portion of the meeting is set to begin at 6 pm with the regular board meeting set to begin no earlier than 7 pm. The public comment portion may be extended to 7:30 pm depending on the volume of individuals wishing to speak.
Groups with the same interest or viewpoint are asked to appoint a single spokesperson in order to accommodate for maximum participation. A final schedule for public comment will be made available via email after 3 pm Wednesday.
