Emporia Police are investigating a shooting incident that happened shortly before noon Thursday.
Officers and Emporia Fire were dispatched to 638 Sherman around 11:30 am. Detective Kevin Shireman tells KVOE News one woman suffered a gunshot wound to a leg and was taken to Newman Regional Health for observation and treatment. Injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. The woman’s name has not been released.
Shireman says the report was for a possibly accidental shooting, and he says the early investigation is consistent with that initial report. The case is still under investigation.
Emporia Public Schools’ administrative offices at Mary Herbert Education Center were in lockdown for a short period of time as a result of the shooting.
