Three construction projects are underway at the David Traylor Zoo, and all three are moving forward, according to Director Lisa Keith.
On KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Thursday, Keith said processes are well underway for a new kookaburra exhibit, renovated waterfowl space and new entrance. The waterfowl space and entrance in particular have seen a lot of progress.
The kookaburra exhibit is on hold for certain equipment, while a new memorial and pedestrian walkways have yet to be built. The early thought is these projects could be finished by mid-November.
The zoo remains open, even though a significant part of the zoo is currently blocked off. A lot of animals are populating the holding areas on the north side of the zoo. More animals are coming in as well, including birds and lemurs.
The projects are all funded through the $4.3 million Oasis capital campaign that finished last year. A lot remains on the to-do list, including the renovation of the Zoo Education Center, a new parking lot, renovation of several current exhibits and brand-new wallaby and otter exhibits.
