The current draft of county zoning regulations is heading back to the Lyon County Planning and Appeals board.
County commissioners voted unanimously 2-0 to send the document back to the planning board for further review Thursday morning. Commissioners are requesting the board work to split the document and provide additional clarification for the general public.
Lyon County Zoning and Floodplain Manager Sam Seeley says he is satisfied with this course of action.
Commissioner Scott Briggs says a lack of clarification within the document has been a continuous concern expressed by many local residents. He says the county needs to be very precise with its language as it continues to work on the document.
The commission’s action follows a recommendation by the planning and appeals board on Aug. 12 to not recommend the current draft of regulations. Reasons given for the decision included a desire for more discussion and desires to wait on approving the document until after the COVID-19 pandemic has eased.
Seeley did state to the commission that planning board members all agreed the regulations are better now than the previous set. Seeley tells KVOE News separating the city and county regulations will be a relatively simple process and will have no effect on the city/county joint comprehensive plan.
A timeline for the review period is currently pending.
In other business, commissioners approved the 2020 abstract for the primary election officially concluding the 2020 primary election cycle. Commissioners spent the remainder of their meeting in executive session.
The Lyon County Commission is scheduled to reconvene for their weekly action session next Thursday at 9 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
