Education is not listed as a cluster by Lyon County Public Health, but both Emporia State and Flint Hills Technical College announced increases in their respective caseloads Friday.
Emporia State currently has five new confirmed patients in addition to the three confirmed cases in its initial report Aug. 21. Since the fall semester began Aug. 17, ESU has tested 48 students with the eight confirmed cases as a result. No students are currently in on-campus isolation housing and only two are quarantining on campus as of Friday. ESU has not announced any COVID-19 cases among faculty or staff to this point.
Flint Hills Technical College is reporting three confirmed cases, up from one case Tuesday, and seven people told to quarantine for being in close contact with confirmed patients. The college is not separating out students from faculty or staff in its report.
Lyon County Public Health is currently tracking clusters in three categories: private industry, long-term care and bars or restaurants.
*Private industry now has two active clusters with 153 total cases, six active cases and one death.
*Long-term care has one active cluster with 148 total cases, 22 active cases and 10 deaths. Another nine deaths are pending final classification on cause of death from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
*Bars or restaurants have one active cluster with six total cases, all of which are active.
