Emporia’s 16th annual Care Packages for the Troops drive is kicking off a bit earlier than usual this year.
Organizer Dianne Tebbetts, KVOE’s Newsmaker guest Monday morning, says donation boxes will be going out across the Emporia community next Tuesday. Boxes can be found at the following locations:
*Mark II Lumber
*Reeble’s Country Mart
*Grave’s Drugs
*Good’s Cash Saver
*Mel’s Tire
*Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Post 1980
Tebbetts says this year’s care package drive is kicking off earlier than usual to ensure packages can be sent to and arrive to over 200 Kansas servicemen and women before Veterans Day. Tebbetts says there are a number of items they are looking for as part of the donation drive, as well as some that can not be accepted.
Also this year, residents can enter for a chance to win a special quilt through a raffle drawing. The quilt will be on display over the next several weeks at three separate locations:
*Lyon County State Bank
*Clint Bowyer Autoplex
*Twin Rivers Winery
Tebbetts shared her gratitude to the local community for consistently supporting the annual care package drive and the men and women who put their lives on the line for our country day in and day out.
