Governor Laura Kelly is encouraging county election officials to enhance vote security by getting as many extra ballot drop boxes as possible.
The governor says counties can use federal CARES Act funding for that purpose.
Secretary of State Scott Schwab is sending each Kansas county two additional drop boxes as interest in mail ballots continues to swell across the state.
During her weekly news conference Monday, the governor also announced additional benefits for people receiving child care assistance. The Department of Children and Families is maintaining the September child care benefit payments at August levels instead of reducing those amounts. Families need to apply by Sept. 30 to receive the additional September benefits. Those funds will be prorated based on the date of application.
In addition, DCF is expanding the eligibility criteria for its Hero Relief Program, expanding child care assistance payments by adding school personnel to the list of eligible workers. Families must have a countable gross income at or below 250 percent of the federal poverty level to qualify. More information is available at www.ksherorelief.com.
