Lyon County commissioners will discuss whether to consider extending the county’s current disaster declaration relating to coronavirus response.
The County Commission action meeting starts at 9 am, and the discussion — and possible vote — on the disaster declaration is among the first things on the agenda. The current plan expires Sept. 18 and sets the table for obtaining federal reimbursement and state assistance.
This is separate from Lyon County’s current health order, which includes a mass gathering limit of 45 people except for certain circumstances like government, education and athletic events. It also includes the strong recommendation to wear masks in public settings and to maintain six-foot social distancing bubbles.
In other business, commissioners will hear Lyon County Administrative Judge Merlin Wheeler discuss potential courtroom adjustments needed to hold jury trials at the courthouse. Commissioners will also have a separate presentation from Emporia Main Street Director Casey Woods, A-1 Pump and Jet owners Ron and Judy McCoy and City of Emporia grant administrator Garrett Nordstrom about possibly having Lyon County serve as a pass-through agent for government assistance, including Community Development Block Grant funding, to foster a business expansion project.
The meeting will take place inside the County Courthouse.
