Newman Regional Health has been honored for its work to save lives through tissue donations.
Midwest Transplant Network has given the hospital with its Excellence in Tissue Donation Award. Emergency Department and Clinical Decision Unit Director Damian O’Keefe says organ and tissue donations are an underutilized way to save lives.
Hospitals obtaining the Excellence in Tissue Donation Award had at least 15 eligible donors with better than 40 percent of families granting authorization. O’Keefe says at least 50 percent of potential donors agreed to give the gift of life through a tissue donation.
Newman Regional Health is one of almost 20 hospitals of all sizes across Kansas to get the honor. O’Keefe credited the hospital’s ongoing partnership with Midwest Transplant Network. He also says smaller hospitals like Newman Regional Health are “ahead of the curve” when it comes to organ and tissue donations.
