The Madison Bulldogs managed to overcome a slow start to defeat the Burlingame Bearcats 48-24 in the Area Game of the Week Friday night.
Madison managed to take a slight 14-12 lead into halftime before scoring 34 unanswered points in the second half to wrap up the win. Burlingame would score twice late in the fourth quarter to cut the lead in half but couldn’t catch up with the Bulldogs.
Madison was led offensively by sophomore Bryson Turner with three touchdowns and 160 yards and senior Ryan Wolgram with three touchdowns and 82 yards of total offense. Wolgram says it felt good to be back in a competitive setting.
Madison head coach Alex McMillian says a win is a win, but his team has some adjustments to make heading into week two, himself included.
Burlingame was led offensively by senior quarterback Evan Young who had 108 yards in the air. Madison starts the season 1-0 while Burlingame begins the year 0-1.
Next week Madison hosts Hartford and Burlingame plays at Waverly.
