Yasmani Grandal gave Chicago a comfortable 5-1 lead by hitting a two-run homer in the 5th inning.
Maikel Franco doubled in a run and Adalberto Mondesi singled in a run for the Royals in the 7th inning to cut the deficit to 5-3.
Kris Bubic suffered the loss but pitched 7 innings giving up 5 runs, 2 were earned, on 4 hits.
