Lyon County’s coronavirus numbers continue pushing up, and the number of active cases is on the rise again.
Lyon County Public Health says the county had 12 new coronavirus cases in Friday’s report. With nine recovered patients and a stable death toll at 19, the active caseload went from 89 Thursday to 92 Friday. The number of deaths awaiting final cause of death information from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment also remains at 16. Overall, Lyon County has had 971 cases since late March.
The number of clusters is back to four after a school cluster developed.
*Private Industry: 1 active cluster, 159 total cases, 7 active cases, 1 death
*Long Term Care: 1 active cluster, 160 total cases, 9 active cases, 12 deaths (plus 14 pending death certificates from KDHE)
*Colleges and Universities: 1 active cluster, 44 total cases, 29 active cases, 0 deaths
School: 1 active cluster, 4 total cases, 4 active cases, 0 deaths. Public Health has not named the cluster location, but USD 253 confirmed Walnut School will have four classrooms start remote-only learning next week after several staffers and a student came down with the virus.
Public Health has now tested over 6,000 residents, approaching 20 percent of the county’s population. The overall percent positive rate is 16.1 percent.
Areawide, only two counties have announced updates:
*Coffey County added four new cases Friday. There were three new recovered patients, but the overall caseload climbed to 101. There are 11 active cases and eight deaths.
*Wabaunsee County reported its first death due to coronavirus. It also has 65 total cases, up from 57 at the end of August, and seven active cases, down from nine Aug. 31.
