The Kansas Department of Health and Environment is recalibrating its approach to announcing cluster locations and infection stats.
During his weekly news conference Wednesday, Health Secretary Lee Norman said the department will focus on active caseloads, not overall numbers.
The KDHE plan was to announce current cluster sites, but stats announced last week focused on overall numbers instead of active cases. That prompted an outcry from businesses and business organizations across the state. Norman says there was a lot of positive feedback after taking that step, especially because of what Norman calls an ongoing effort towards transparency, but he admitted there have been some concerns as well.
Information releases are currently on hold until KDHE can break out active cases. That may resume by next Wednesday.
