As Lyon County Public Health continues coordinating the county’s response to coronavirus, the department is getting an infusion of new contact tracers to help the effort.
Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Millbern there was a three-week period when a number of employees took other opportunities near the start of the academic year — right at the time when the active caseload was as high as it had been since mid-May. Those slots are now almost full, and Millbern says the new staff are getting acclimated to their new duties.
Meanwhile, Millbern says there has been a steady increase in testing numbers since May, and a notable increase over the past month.
So far, over 6,500 Lyon County residents have been tested, just under 20 percent of the county’s estimated population of 33,400. Millbern says some test numbers may be underreported with county residents possibly going elsewhere for testing, so Public Health is in the process of adjusting its dashboard to better reflect those numbers.
