The Emporia High volleyball team took Washburn Rural the number 1 ranked team in 6A to the wire in both sets before Washburn Rural escaped to win the match.
Rural won the 1st set 29-27 and the 2nd set 25-21.
The Lady Spartans made quick work of Junction City winning 25-14 and 25-8.
The Lady Spartans are now 9-5 for the season.
They are scheduled to go to Burlington for a tournament Saturday.
