A portion of one Emporia High School athletics team no longer needs to quarantine after members were cleared Saturday.
KVOE was informed Saturday that the EHS girls JV tennis squad have been cleared of potential infection. Friday, USD 253 announced via its tracking dashboard that both the Girls varsity and JV Tennis Teams were told to quarantine after having come into contact with an individual who recently tested positive for the virus.
Word on the girl’s varsity squad quarantine is currently pending. The district did not mention whether the positive individual the team came into contact with is associated with USD 253 in any way.
Tennis tournaments for Saturday and Monday were canceled due to the ordered quarantine. Stay with KVOE, KVOE.com and KVOE social media for more updates as they become available.

USD 253 Emporia Public Schools announced one new coronavirus case over the past week. It also announced members of a high school athletic squad will have to quarantine due to recent exposure to the virus.
USD 253 has one new case in an employee. Eight employees — two at the prekindergarten to elementary school level, five at the secondary grade level and a support staffer — and 31 students are in quarantine.
The district tracking dashboard says 28 students for the Emporia High girls varsity and junior varsity players were told they had come into contact with a person who tested positive. The district did not mention whether the person was associated with USD 253 in any way. Tennis tournaments for Saturday and Monday have been canceled.
The other three quarantines happened after students came in close contact with an elementary staff member who had tested positive for the virus.
