The Cut hasn’t been chopped from the Flint Hills Technical College’s fall schedule, but it is taking on a new look due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The fourth annual showcase of the college’s Culinary Arts department won’t take place live this year, and in fact will look a lot more like its famous TV origin “Chopped” when it’s all said and done. Vice President of Advancement Mike Crouch had an update on KVOE’s Morning Show this week:
This means an even bigger role for Instructional Multimedia students, who have been responsible for the live production of The Cut in years past, including sending the live video to the on-site watch party at the college.
This comes as the Culinary Arts department is now knee-deep in renovations, thanks to the Inspiring Wranglers fundraising campaign. By next spring, there will be new baking, kitchen, and classroom spaces to help students achieve chef status as they gain their associate’s degrees. This work will also lead to the program being accredited by the American Culinary Federation.
An air date for The Cut is currently pending. Thre goal is to have it air on ValuNet FIBER and the Internet.
